Facebook API keys need to be provided to have Facebook connect work

facebook-placesFacebook, today launched the much awaited geo location tagging facility at an event held at their headquarters in Palo Alto, CA.

Facebook unveiled their new Places product. It is their entry in this space has been rumored for a long time.

Facebook places enables users and advertisers to tag their location and share with friends.

“There was so much to do before we launched this,” Facebook founder Zuckerberg said with a smile on his face. He said that what they’re focusing on at launch is a solid core.

How it works?

Facebook places works in 3 ways -

It helps people share where they are
It helps people see who is around them
And it helps people see what’s going on around them

Facebook technos are working since past 8 months on this project.

Facebook is banking high on its advertising aspect as well. Facebook is already encouraging advertisers to start registering their businesses. Advertiser can use this plateform to increase the sale and to advertise their brand online.

Here is how an Advertiser would benefit from FB Places -

A showroom owner creates a presence of his business’s physical store locations- encouraging customers to share that they’ve visited his business by “checking in” to his Place.

When his customer checks into his Place, these check-in stories get published and can generate powerful, organic impressions in friends’ News Feeds.

It extends Advertizer's brand reach to new customers.

Facebook is encouraging businesses to create a Places page for advertising.

Facebook says that “Once you claim your Place, you’ll be able to advertise it just as you advertise your Facebook Page. To advertise your Place, click “I want to advertise something I have on Facebook” in the ad creation flow and choose your Place from the drop-down menu.”

Of course Facebook is banking high on this new facility but will get get instant success? It is big question.
