Signifying the emergence of a new wave of Pakistani cinema, Nandita Das starrer 'Ramchand Pakistani' is set for simultaneous release in theaters across India and Pakistan early next month. Debut director Mehreen Jabbar's film is the second one from Pakistan to be released in India this year. 'Khuda ke liye' by Shoaib Mansoor starring veteran actor Naseerudin Shah received a good response and much acclaim when it was shown in April here. "This film represents the emergence of new Pakistani cinema after several years of decline caused by a government imposed ban on Indian films," producer Javed Jabbar told reporters a day after it was shown at the Osian's Cinefan festival of Asian and Arab cinema in the capital.

The story inspired from a real-life incident is about a Pakistani boy and his father who inadvertently stray into Indian territory at a time when there is a war like situation between the two countries. Both father and son are put in jail by Indian authorities on the suspicion of being spies and the mother played by Nandita Das is left on the other side of the border. "The film's success at the Box office should not be an indicator of its quality. Box Office success should not reflect on the film," says Mehreen, who is foraying into films for the big screen for the first time.

Jabbar has directed several award-winning, critically acclaimed TV films and serials including 'Kahaniyan' 'Beauty Parlour' and others screened on leading TV channels in South Asia and in the UK.
