The ministry of food is planning to start a "Food Street". These Food Streets will serve hygienic and safe eatables on streets. The main aim of the government is to wean away people from unhealthy junk food.
In India the street food indeed is very popular but on the contrary its very unhygienic and affects adversely to the health. So Government is really worried and plans to launch a scheme called " Quality Upgradation of Street Food" as a central sector scheme. In nine big cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Banglore, Agra, Agartala,Kolkota, Guwahati, and Jaipur the baseline studies have been already conducted covering a total of 4,300 street food venders. This servey covers the practices of the preparation of the food by the vendor, its storing style and place, its presentation and ofcourse the vessels used to prepare and serve it.
"The model food cart was developed by the ministry in consultation with the Indraprastha Institute of Technology with inputs from IIT Delhi college of Engineering. The committee, however, felt the sanction of Rs. 38 crore for the street food for upgradation of the stalls, water supply and most importantly for the disposal of the wastes.
But the standing committee is really happy for the scheme and recommends to implement the scheme soon after the approval from the Planning Commission.
