Bollywood is the informal name given to
the typical mumbai based Indian film industry. The term is often incorrectly
used to refer to the whole Indian cinema. But actually it is limited to the
films only. Still they are the complete entertainer.
It
contains everything. Melodrama, action, emotions, music, songs, dance,
romance, sex, thrills, stills and what not. The most important part of the
Indian cinema is music. Bollywood films are generally musical and are expected
to contain catchy music in the form of song-and-dance numbers woven into the
script. A film's success often depends on the quality of such musical
numbers.Indeed, a film's music is often released before the movie itself and helps
increase the audience. With
music the most important thing is dance. In the movies of 50s, 60s and
ofcourse 70s there was an era of Cabaret dance. Helen was one of the most
popular cabaret dancers. Actually she was an extra dancer in the troop
of another most famous dancer called Cukoo. It is said that in that age
the films were simply a big hit just because of her dances. Many oldies use to
go and see those movies more than once. Thereafter many cabaret dancers came
but nobody could beat her up and had to switch over to some other roles of
vamps or typical zulmi saas or some other character roles.
Ofcourse,
dancers like mumtaz were equally famous but they became leading heroines
thereafter. Bindu and aroona irani were also very popular. But Bindu was
a real vamp which use to do a cabaret for villians like ajit. Nowadays also
there is a trend of similar dance but that's certainly not cabaret. Its called
item nos. and some times famous actors are also cast for the dance.
Whereas cabarets in bollywood is always done by female dancers
